The headwaters of the Animas River are at altitudes greater than 12,000 feet, traversing alpine terrain until its confluence with the San Juan River. Politically, the Animas River begins in the State of Colorado, flows through the Southern Ute Indian Tribe Reservation and into the State of New Mexico.  The Earth Data Analysis Center (EDAC) with the University of New Mexico as the State Cooperating Technical Partner (CTP) in collaboration with the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management are meeting with communities within the watershed to perform Discovery.
