Jackson County was founded in 1836. Jackson County is named for Andrew Jackson, seventh president of the United States.

As of 2010, the population of Jackson County is 14,075.

Jackson County receives annual rainfall averages of 40 inches. Several historic storms affected the area. Hurricane Carla’s eye passed southwest of Jackson County in September 1961. Jackson County was also under a flash flood watch during Hurricane Alex in June 2010.

Jackson County entered the regular National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) in August 1978.
